Coronavirus crisis: Perth man faces fine or jail after ‘fleeing WA lockdown for New Zealand’

The West Aussie accused of fleeing Perth’s COVID-19 lockdown by flying to New Zealand faces a significant financial penalty - or jail time.

Authorities in NZ say the man made use of the trans-Tasman bubble to fly quarantine-free into Auckland via Sydney on Monday, the final day of Perth and Peel’s long weekend lockdown.

The travel appears to breach the conditions of Western Australia's lockdown and the trans-Tasman travel regime introduced last week.
